Madonna, Cyndi and Tina

For the record, the epic snorer on our flight from Amsterdam to Kigali was my seat mate. Yeah, she was awesome. The flight attendants kept telling me to elbow her - that didn't really work. Thank you headphones for blocking her out most of the time. Nice lady though; she was on her way to Uganda to work at mission she and her husband established a few years ago.

The first thing that I noticed when we got into the lobby of the Lemingo was that Madonna's "Like a Prayer" was playing (and it wasn't Madonna singing). At first I thought it was karaoke but I was wrong. A singer was on for the night - singing American pop songs a
mong other things. As we moved from the lobby to our rooms, Madonna became Cyndi Lauper ("True Colors"). Later, when we met up for a drink, Cyndi Lauper became Tina Turner. There's something strange and hilarious about listening to "What's Love Got To Do With It" at a bar in Rwanda. Honestly, it had a sort of wedding singer quality to it.

It's an absolutely beautiful day today. Sunny, warm but not uncomfortable.

We're going out for a little while this afternoon while we wait for the second part of the group to arrive. They'll be here this evening. Tomorrow we'll tour Kigali.

For all you Navigator fans, here's a picture of Navi at the Amsterdam airport. He'll be joining us as we travel around Rwanda!

  1. Erin,
I knew this was your post before I looked at the bottom to see your name! Rwanda is welcoming you for a wonderful trip with 80s songs in the bar.
Can't wait to hear about your adventures!
